SMT standoff ??

Can anyone recommend a source for a surface mountable standoff ??

(In particular I need very small 2mm high standoff to hold two tiny printed circuit boards together ..)

Thanks, Stuart

Hello Stuart,

Depends on how it is mounted. The best bet would probably be a local machine shop. They can saw you tons of them.

Other option: Really cheap dummy parts that happen to be 2mm tall. They just get soldered on like everything else but are connected to ground with all pins. Or use a few larger than necessary "real" parts of 2mm height and place them strategically (not electolytics, of course).

If you're doing SMT, then you probably have some chip resistors in your kit. Stand an 0805 on end.

They love to tombstone anyway, so this shouldn't be too difficult. :-)

Hello Richard,

ROFL!

Ain't that the truth. Just don't trust it to hold much. The metallization comes off rather easily and then the other board might go sailing.
