RS485

As we know In RS485 we can connect 32 nodes.,I have one doubt in RS48 Standard we can use upto 4000ft (distance)...will this length is between nodes or we have to connect 32 nodes within this lenght(distance)...I a waiting for the valuable solution.... urs vijay
