RedHat 8 for VersaLogic PC/104 Bobcat?

Hi Folks;

I'm building a PC/104 stack for a NASA sensor, need to interface this
with a digitizer. I'm using a VersaLogic PC/104 "Bobcat" 586-based SBC
which comes with a simplified (and hence small) Linux RedHat 6.2 kernel.
My problem to resolve looks like this:

a) the digitizer comes with RedHat 8.0 s/w; will this likely compile and
run on RedHat 6.2?

b) if not, how does one find/generate/buy a more up-to-date RedHat Linux
kernel which must necessarily fit onto the 96MB DiskOnChip Flash RAM?

Any helpful suggestions much appreciated,
regards
rob
