Proposed Usenet newsgroup about the Raspberry Pi

I have submitted a formal proposal for a new Usenet newsgroup focussed on the Raspberry Pi (for info on which see

formatting link
The decision as to whether the group gets created or not depends largely on interest. If you would like to see the group set up (or even if you don't want it to be set up!) you might want to add a comment to the proposal.

For the proposal see

or see newsgroup

news.groups.proposals

under the topic

RFD: comp.sys.raspberry-pi

If you would use the new group please add a comment to say whether you would expect only to read the group or also to post to it. Only a word or two are needed. As a guide, some comments are there already.

Apart from whether the group should be created or not various aspects of the proposal can be discussed. Feel free to join in the discussion if you wish to do so.

Bear in mind that news.groups.proposals is moderated so your posts may take a few hours to appear.

There are links in the proposal to the Big 8 Management Board processes and further background info.

The new newsgroup has been created, named as above.

I am not sure yet how many Usenet providers are already carrying the group but it has been receiving posts for a couple of days and is working normally.

Google does not have it available yet - reputedly they always take a while - but I am told that many providers add Big-8 groups like this one automatically when they receive a control message. So hopefully most people can see it. Feedback on which providers carry the group and which do not would be welcome.

Well I can certainly see it, I guess I'm getting it from News.Individual.NET but as I run leafnode using several sources it's difficult to be sure.

The Path: line in a message header will tell you. Here's the header for your post just prior to this, which was posted via individual.net (last but one entry) and which I fetched from ES (first entry).

I'm accessing it via Google.

BTW, I looked on Asimov for an image for my RasPi that has some kind of A2 emulator. No joy...

Thanks for this and similar feedback. Over the past few days various Usenet providers have added the group. Some did so automatically and some needed to be asked by their customers. For anyone who still does not have access the key seems to be asking your provider. Many providers have added it very quickly.

For anyone whose provider is slow to add it there are at least three free services that you can use to access the group: eternal- september.org, Google Groups, and aioe.org.

Virgin and Demon's server is operated by Highwinds, I don't know about the other two. You can ask them to add it.

I've sent requests to UKFSN and Entanet.

I'm currently using both the UKFSN and Entanet NNTP servers with Pan. That combination seems to play nicely together.
