Looking for an Embedded Micro with a J1850 BLDC Built-In

[Followups set to comp.arch.embedded.]

I've spent the entire day scouring the web for microcontrollers with a built-in J1850 BLDC. Finding these chips is not difficult; finding one that is still current, however, seems to be much more difficult. So far promising-sounding ones like the MC68HC908AS20, the MC68HC912B32, and the MPC5200 are either no longer being sold or are "not recommended for new designs."

Can anyone recommend a CURRENT chip, preferably one with an inexpensive eval board and free/inexpensive development tools (this is a hobby project, so cost is a big factor)?

Thanks for your help!

If it it is a "one of" why not a "not recommended for new designs" chip, as long as you can still buy it.

A chip such as the MC9S12DJ64 is still current I believe.

I'm not aware of a specific development board for this device though. You would probably have to start with something like the DEMO9S12XDT512 (75$).

The dev kit comes with a freebie codewarrior, but if you prefer a gcc cross compiler for the HC12 target is available here:

Well, even though it's just a hobby project for now, there's no sense precluding the possibility of a commercial product later on. :)

Not sure what you need it for, but the MPC5200B is the current version of the MPC5200, and it is quite alive. It is practically the same, with some minor enhancemens and some bugs having been removed.
