People tend to use PWM, or R-2R networks, to achieve this functionality.
The NXP LPC2XXX series of ARM parts have a D/A as well as PWM if you really need a D/A on the micro. I'm sure there are others out there as well.

That's an analog option, and it varies with supplier. So you look to the 'analog experts' for good DACs Analog Devices, TI, SiLabs etc
TI have some BurrBrown 80C51 cored devices, with 16bit DACs ADI have some 12 bit DACs, on their uC Silabs have 12b DACs on a number of their microcontrollers
A poor-mans DAC is a PWM, but there are some applications where that is too slow, or too noisy.

Analog devices microconverters, TI MSP430, Silabs all have them
Many are available. Checkout AD and TI.
