If you are having difficulties finding engineers who master tricky hardware designs yet keep the whole system in mind (very common problem for HR) you might want to consider using consultants for certain areas. They can also be very useful as "go-to" people when your engineers run into tough questions.

For anyone who considers to take a look I can only say that Schilling must be a great company to work for. I've had a tour there during an IEEE visit, very impressive. Oh, and Davis also has a nice brewery ;-)

My first impression of them is that they hire people for their Personnel Department who won't respect the *no jobs posting to non-jobs groups* meme.

Well, I don't mind a brief one-time post. As long as it's not a repeat type of posting.

One of the really cool things on their premises is a very deep test pool. That ought to be perfect fun during a summer company fest. And the Huebsch brewery is almost walking distance.

Several of our Mechatronics graduated students have gone to work there. They can't say enough good things about it.

The engineering challenges sure are great there. Probably one of the requirements of candidates is not to become sea-sick easily. But that's the same in the oil business.

Rumpelstilskin: Great post, I got a chuckle out of it. Client: "What time is it?" ... Consultant: "Gimme your watch and I'll tell you"
