is preparing a HMMWV to navigate its way through the desert 175 miles without a driver, for the

2005 DARPA Grand Challenge.

We are beginning to put all of the pieces together, and are seeking volunteers to help with the realtime c++ software and interprocess communications on networked CompactPCI boards running QNX. If you have experience in this area and would like to join a most exciting project, please send your info to snipped-for-privacy@autonvs.com. We are located in Southern California (San Diego and Orange County) although it is possible to work remotely via our online source control system.

The basic problem with all the designs thus far - and the reason all the previous round failed - is that none of them were black sports cars, and none of them had cycling LEDs in a window on the hood.

By the way - the original was auctioned off on eBay a few months ago. I think the starting bid was $10,000. But it was in very poor condition, not even driveable.

IIRC there were more than one original. For example there was one very light version for the stunts/jumps, and I think I read somehwere that the version with the fancy dashboard was never drivable since it needed to be plugged into a socket...
