different protocols on same IR reciver...does it work?

Hi Everybody, I am working on RMAP protocol.I have a decoder which can decode RMAP and MIT protocol. This decoder works on RMAP protocol when the IR receiver is R3302,IR_REC_V_56KHz_TSOP2256VI1(not sure who is the manufacturer). The decoder also works on MIT protocol, when the IR receiver is TSOP1133(dont know who is the manufacturer).

Observation: (1)Since the decoder works fine for both the protocols at different receivers, so I am sure that the decoder is working fine(else it wouldnt have worked at all). I want to make the decoder work for RMAP protocol also, when the receiver is TSOP1133(the second case)...in this scenario, it's now working only for MIT.

I want to know: (a)Should the IR receiver work for all the protocols? If not why and what are the factors that prevent it from working. My Guess: If the carrier frequencies for the protocols do not match, maybe the IR receiver wont be able to decode it. Is this true? where can I find more information about it?

(b)What is the carrier freq's for RMAP and MIT protocol? My confusion: Do the carrier freq depend on the protocol or the remote control itself?

If anybody is having domain knowledge on this, pls pls respond soon.

Thanks, Sudip
