8051 Emulator

I'm looking for an 8051 emulator, as my Brendes Biceps-V has gone away...

Thanks

Most new 8051 silicon has the emulator built in. Look at Atmel, Silabs et al for examples.

Why? He is looking for an emulator not a different MCU.

Besides not may 8051's have Emulation built in A lot of 8051's have JTAG . JTAG is a debugger system. It is NOT an emulator.

Some have Hooks and Enhanced Hooks but these require a particular kind of Emulator.

Specifically which 8051 do you have?

Chris H formulated on martedì :

Yes, this is the real problem. I'm using an old 80x52 built into an old PCB, so I can't use new MCU equipped with ISP and/or JTAG interfaces. I need an emulator.

Thanks

pity this was not posted a month earlier as I just threw away a couple of Ceibo DS-51s.

In message , djordj writes

EXACTLY which 8052 are you using and in which package ?

BTW where are you? The Internet may be all one place but real world shipping costs depend on distance.

After using various ICE's over a period of 20 years. The best one thus far is a debugging tool I=92ve build from a silabs F020 and using the Keil uVision 2 debugger through a silab jtag interface. All the relevant pins for a 40-pin =9251 was brought out on my design and with careful manipulation of the clock (the f020 runs 12 times faster at the same clock) ive got a tool the gives me more value than any of those expensive emulators.

You must work for Silabs! There is a world of difference between a JTAG and an Emulator.

Also the OP has stated that it is an 8051 on a PC that does not have a JTAG or ISP. SO your solution is a non starter anyway.

I stand by my suggestion of looking for a second hand Hitex or Nohau ICE.

Saw this thread a bit late.

If the OP is in Australia, still around and interested I *do* have a Nohau EMUL51 emulator board set though I doubt anyone has the 2 x ISA slots anymore that these require...

Alternatively I also have a Philips PDS51 (made in NZ) and if anyone is still reading ;-) a CIEBO 750 kit (Philips 87X750,1 & 2 micros).

Chris.

Either of those are a LOT better than a JTAG.

Depends on your problems :

I'd much rather emulate with the same silicon as I ship :)

- as an example, the last two 'Emulation Needed issues' we tracked down, related to Silicon peripheral issues. (and subtle variations from the datasheets)

If the emulator uses bondout, or different silicon, you have a blind spot.

For many 51's you use a hooks part so there is no difference.

Thanks for the advices. I'll try to find them.

PS: I'm writing from Italy.

..what would you suggest as a place to look for those? I am in a somwhat similar situation as djordj - I have got a MX51, model MX51-A-19, serial number 647 but I am in need for the software (any platform would be OK) and the DIL40 adapter cable since I want to work on a 8751 based design...

I am monitoring eBay for 6 months now, but no success especially on the DIL40 cable...

Thanks and best regards,

Erik.
