Simple Preamp Circuit Needed

I've been looking for a simple (preferably 1 or 2 transistors or IC based) preamp to go between the LM380 amp I mentioned in an earlier post, and a regen radio. I've searched Google and only came up with circuits that are too complicated for me (only have basic electronic skills). I found one at Jaycar electronics, but would prefer to roll my own. Any help on this is appreciated.

Thanks Dave Australia

First hit on google search for transistor preamp. Appears to be pretty basic and would likely rank as beginner material.

One that explains the design of another one (I haven't read this, so I can't vouch for accuracy):

Many, many, many more.

Good luck, Richard

I came across the first one, but as it uses an electret microphone, I passed it by. Would it be OK to connect my regen radio and crystal radio to it instead of the electret microphone?

May be the audio section of this web site is helpful:

It has an ECM mic preamp, headphone preamp, HiFi preamp and a low voltage preamp. Just take your own pick and see which is suitable for you.

Think I might go with this one,

with two BC549 transistors. Since it has no input/output labels, I'm assuming the input connection is the 1.0 uF connected to the 1k resistor, and the output the 10 uF connected to the emitter of T1. Looks like my soldering iron will be warming up again soon.

Thanks Dave

Just remove the electret from the circuit, as well as the leftmost 10k resistor (it is just there to power the electret mic). Then your input will be between ground and the cap that goes to the base of the transistor.

That should be right. I remember when I started electronics in high school, we couldn't afford and don't know how to make a PCB, so we ended up getting some bronze wood screws and screwed them onto a piece of plywood. The transistors and transformers were soldered directly onto the screws. I remember the transistors were 2SB54 and 2SB56 germinium. That's how we started with out first 3-transistor audio amplifier. Never heard of LED that time !!
