Wave digital filters

This .pdf is pretty interesting, with respect to modeling analog circuits digitally without using numerical ODE methods to solve the system of equations a la SPICE. The emphasis isn't on numerical accuracy, but simulating analog circuits like tone stacks, tube amps, etc. for digital effects.

Has anyone worked on any software like this?

Well, without checking the article -- you can do linearized small signal AC analysis a whole heck of a lot easier than full nonlinear transient analysis. This comes to mind:

If they are doing nonlinear, it still needn't be too overly complicated, to iterate steps.

It would be a fun exercise to write a virtual tube compressor/limiter plugin for VLC, I think.
