Urgent advice needed! Build a two-way crossover for speaker

Hi all. I am a DJ and I use two active 12" speakers for tops. Today one of them broke and I have a gig on Saturday. I have an amplifier rig with lots of free channels and want to convert those active tops to passive with a simple built in crossover.

I know it's not according to "the book" but I have tried just to add a MKP cap of 8uF in series with the tweeter and it sounds good.

The input signal to the speaker will be frequency divided actively from an external crossover, but the 12" speakers will play from 100Hz and up as it looks right now.

My biggest concern is: Will it do any harm for the 12" woofer if connected to the full-range signal, not applying a lowpass filter in front of it? I assume the tweeter is the most sensitive in this story and with 8uF it will roll of at 6dB/oct at around 2kHz.

Greatful for any quick advice! Thanx!

Best regards PaF,

I'm mostly clueless when it comes to audio, hopefully Phil A. will respond. (About half of your audio "lingo" left me scratching my head.) But what harm could it do? Presumably the woofer is not going to be able to move fast enough to keep up with the high frequency. I guess there may be some mid-range where you will be getting a bit more signal... from both the high and low channel.

no harm. Woofers are often used without crossover.
