Semi OT: customers

A type of comment I often see from musicians regarding new products:

"Well, this synthesizer has 4 voices for $499. I'd gladly pay $200 more for another four. What were they thinking by not adding them? They're clearly fools for not doing it that way."

I want two more (voltage) knobs on my cheap rigol 'scope. I'd pay ~$100 for that... but I probably not a "typical" customer.

I've often said I'd be willing to pay *double* (for an item) for the ASSURANCE (no, not just a "guarantee/warranty") that it wouldn't break (in some time period). I.e., I don't want the hassle of going to use "it" and discovering that it's broken and I now have to deal with getting it replaced/repaired along with the time that will be lost doing so.

As a result, I often buy things in pairs -- just to have a "cold spare" on hand to guard against that.

But, as you say, "I'm probably not a typical customer". :>

Yeah I wouldn't pay double for that. In my experience everything pretty much works. If it doesn't people won't buy it and it goes away. (I never buy new stuff, I wait till it's been around for a while.)
