OT: Resonance USSR Style

This is what happens in Communist la-la land where science is subordinated to Marxist dogma:

"In the Soviet Union, resonance theory ? especially as developed by Pauling ? was attacked in the early 1950s as being contrary to the Marxist principles of dialectical materialism, and in June 1951 the Soviet Academy of Sciences under the leadership of Alexander Nesmeyanov convened a conference on the chemical structure of organic compounds, attended by 400 physicists, chemists, and philosophers, where 'the pseudo- scientific essence of the theory of resonance was exposed and unmasked.'"

No wonder the entire pile of shit came tumbling down 40 years later. But yet we see the same mentality still prevailing, with predictable dire consequences, in rotting hell holes like Sweden and Venezuela! :-/

Pauling never got anything absolutely right, and his idea of "resonance" be tween discrete structures had been replaced by the "delocalised electron" b y the time I'd hit graduate school.

His structure for ozone - O3 - as resonance between O=O-O and O-O=O has been replaced by a single structure where the extra electron was spread ov er both bonds. Diborane - B2H6 - poses a similar problem and Christopher Lo nguet-Higgins worked out the correct structure in 1943 while he was still a n undergraduate.

Attacking the idea on ideological grounds would have been something of a wa ste of time.

Venezuela may be a rotting hell, but ascribing it's problems to the fact th at Chavez labelled his coalition party "socialist" isn't entirely realistic .

Coupling it Sweden as a similar kind of rotting hell is even less realistic . Sweden is one of the best countries in the world in which to live, even i f the Daily Mail has reporters scouring the country trying to find places t hat a right-wing UK resident wouldn't find attractive.

Cursitor Doom is a gullible sucker for every kind of right wing propaganda but this is even more lunatic than usual - which makes it remarkably lunati c.

As for Marxist ideology messing up scientific progress, Russia did fine sci entifically - for a poor country - as Cursitor Doom would know, if he knew anything about science.

Incidentally the Caracas Metro ran for nearly 25 years a million or so riders a day without a single fatal accident, meanwhile in the great US lately going a few weeks without a fatal Amtrak crash seems to be a tall order.

Yet you want to turn everything in our lives over to the federal government. What a dumbass!

Amtrak is federally-run more-or-less in name only at the operational level; the main Federal government-level decisions being made are which public-private partnership lowest-bidder contract transit union mooks to hire this year.

You combine the Federal government and private industry in an attempt to make awesomesauce that's the best of both worlds you definitely don't get awesomesauce, I will agree there.

That is to say just because the _American_ Federal government generally operates as a racketeering organization designed to hand taxpayer money over to billionaires doesn't necessarily imply that there's some law of nature written somewhere that it's the same everywhere or always must be so.

Krw does like to over-simplify. It's what congenital dumbasses do - if the facts aren't over-simplified to bare rudiments, the krw-style brain hasn't got enough bits to represent them.

IMO a good policy in life is to think about what kind of goals and desires habitual abusive Internet trolls have and then try to do something resembling the exact opposite. It's not a guaranteed recipe for success but it's usually a great starting point/baseline

When I look at the men on this bridge:

know what I see? Fat. Old. Weaklings.

If they want to "fight for their race" perhaps they should consider not scarfing so many cheeseburgers each day.

So they try to concentrate the observers attention on a characteristic that isn't necessarily going be seen as being negative - being white-skinned is n't exactly a good thing, but at least it isn't as negative as being percei ved as fat, old or less-than-muscular. It's an admission of weakness, but t hey may be too stupid to realise this.

The only thing that makes them less happy than immigrants is when they find out you sleep with their wife
