Sure. Both the XP and Windoze 7 printer drivers list has to be updated seperately. Windoze Update doesn't bother to update the drivers. I don't have a Win 7 machine handy, so I think the "update drivers" button is on the page where it shows a list of prospective printers to install. It takes 5-10 minutes to download, and offers no indication of download progress or success, so just walk away until the button comes back from the gray zone.

Another solution is to use the HP drivers instead of the MS drivers. For your P2015dn, see: for the Win 7 64 bit driver(s) download. I suggest you uninstall your existing P2015dn printer before installing a replacement to eliminate any confusion between the two drivers.

Most likely it has something to do with the printer. Get rid of the printer and you won't have this problem.

Well, weirdness is difficult to duplicate. My guess(tm), per a previous conversation, is that your P2015dn printer is not the best that HP ever produced. Most of the printers from that series which I've worked on were initially intermittent and eventually failed due to crappy soldering of the big BGA chip on the formatter card. I've baked a few of those with mixed results. Only one out of the two in the photo eventually worked.

What methinks is happening with yours is that before printing, the computah is interrogating the printer for a feature list. If it finds some feature active in the Windoze driver configuration, but not available in the printer feature list, it proclaims a paradox and produces a useless and non-specific error message. This is only a guess(tm).

I suggest that you continue using the printer until the problem becomes obvious and you're tempted to defenestrate the printer. Replacement boards are a bit overpriced: Or, buy a toaster oven for about the same price, and try your luck at PCB baking.

The LaserJet pro 400 m401n is on sale this month. But theres no duplexer. So no gain.

I'm using the HP 2015DN with USB and PCL6 driver 61.754.561.43 under Win7 Pro. Works okay, the only weirdness I notice is that it sucks the paper back in for single sided printing, so I suppose it's using up my print cycles twice as fast. Mostly I print monochrome from an XP machine when I print at all so it's no big deal.

This thing will die or run out of toner within the next year or so and I'll pull the Brother off the shelf.

I've had this printer for _many_ years with no problems whatsoever. Particularly I have enjoyed that it complains of low toner, but prints on forever until _I_personally_ decide that the contrast is fading.

You probably have the default print settings set to double sided (duplex) printing. What I do is create TWO printer icons in Windoze. Both have the same printer definition file and printer port. They only differ in name and some setting defaults. One defaults to single-sided, the other to duplex printing. For printers with multiple paper bins, I also create a printer with the associated default paper bin. This can become rather messy, but it saves considerable mouse clicking when printing.

When your P2015DN dies, the USB-only formatter board is cheaper and more common on eBay. That's because most everyone that replaces the board also upgrades to the USB+Ethernet boards.

I'm not sure if a Brother laser printer is an improvement over the HP P2015dn. Some of the early Brother laser printers were rather awful. The newer printers are much better.

I'm sure there are people like you out there, that have bought HP an laser printer and never experienced any problems with it. Being in the repair biz, I don't see these people. All I see are the users with defective printers. However, I'm not worried. With the P2015 series of printers, its time will come.

That's a common setting and feature. There's a setting to either stop or continue printing when it's out of toner. Your choice. Also, if you shake the toner cart horizontally, you'll probably print a few more pages.

In my experience, the contrast does fade a little just before it runs out of toner. However, most HP printers will print perfectly and then suddenly run out of toner, often in the middle of a page. I suggest you keep a spare full toner cartridge handy for this eventuality.

I guess it would be pointless to mention that in order to toss something out the window, a window is required. Therefore, proper defenestration requires Windows, or at least one window.

This is what I'm pushing this week: $100 for everything in one box (AIO).

Replacement toner carts are down to about $8.00 on eBay.

No Wi-Fi. Print quality is tolerable. Associated software is bloated and complex, but quite reliable. Replacing the imager drum is giant PITA. User support is a bad joke. Parts can be found, but not easily. If you want reliability, buy a spare printer. At $100/ea, you can't lose.
