Yeah, the Virginia colony was more tightly governed. So, the first printing press there was demolished because 'it had no royal license', and later when they put together a college they (1) named it the College of William and Mary (naming after the monarch was a good way to suck up) (2) offered free courses to the natives (Amerindians)- which pleased the royal governor, as he had a monopoly on trade with them

A few rebellions later, the royal influence was much diminished (but they kept the name). We'll never know how much accommodation was required, because nothing written was immune to disapproval (with a few exceptions: William Byrd's diaries were encoded, the code wasn't cracked until 1941).

When he kissed Doris Day he imagined she was Brando.

Yes. The "virtue signalling" of its time. Nowadays, butt-kissers volubly throw accusations of "racism" around with gay abandon in the hope of recognition and self-advancement.

After Hudson was outed and his career as a romantic lead was ruined, John Wayne insisted on having him cast in "The Undefeated" which launched Hudson's second career as an action star. He said, "John Wayne saved my career." It's interesting that some gay men who met Wayne say he definitely set off their GAYDAR. Good for him in either case. The left always gets him wrong, like when Brando claimed that Wayne "would have shot Ghandi."

John Wayne is the big hero around here... Maricopa, AZ, just south of Phoenix is the town that sprang up around the John Wayne Ranch. I recently got a warning ticket on John Wayne Blvd... jumped out of a left turn lane in front of a DPS cruiser (you'll remember, my complaints of being referred to as the "cute elderly couple" last Thanksgiving ;-)

Several of Hollywood "cowboy" and other stars have Arizona connections... the list is quite surprising...
