Its irrelevant that it is the "start of a human being". If it never has had consciousness, it's equivalent to a carrot. We don't care about the feelings of a carrot, because, dah...now get this, it don't have any.
Its being "aware". To feel, to have conscious experience, that is what we are. That's it. I can't say, how much, because it can't be measured, but if it is ZERO, it matters diddly squat. There is no consciousness to feel that it did not have consciousness. This should be trivial to understand.
Once one accepts that there is no soul and that we are a biological machine that has, unexplainably, become aware, "ethics" becomes much simpler.
