ot, breakfast

Try this:

Make some pancake mix. I use a cup of Bisquick, an egg, a spoon of sugar, milk, and a bunch of fresh blueberries.

Heat a skillet, hot, and add a bunch of butter. Cover the surface with pecan halves and banana slices. Scorch both on one side, then glob the pancake mix on top, pretty thick. Cook until brown, flip, repeat. If there is ever any doubt, add more butter. The flipping part is where the anxiety comes in; it's a zero-G manuever onto a structure with zero mechanical integrity, and usually doesn't work. Do your best.

Mo calls this "pancake descending a staircase."

Are you using a large-sized 'pancake' spatula?

Dunno anything about that product- just an example- but something like that should make flipping it a piece of cake.

After consumption, make an appointment with your cardiologist.

This sure looks like an engineer's breakfast setting. There's two cups of coffee and even the place mats are made of EMC shielding material :-)

Hey, do you know if it's easy to get a parking spot at the Embarcadero/Washington lot on a weekday around lunchtime? Got a biz meeting in the Ferry Building. Wish I could pop into Zeitgeist for another brewsky but unfortunately it won't work this time.

Then one on the left is syrup.

You may be right about the place mats. ;-)

Easy? Not really, but there are other parking lots nearby that *might* have space. You could park at our place and take the Muni Metro to the Embarcadero; that would take about the same time as fighting your way downtown and hunting for parking.

Thank you for the offer. One problem is that the meeting could take long and I have to bring one of the guys to SFO. I could probably run the whole stretch to your company but I am not sure he could.

So I guess I'll leave early, then I have time to hunt for a spot. This is one reason why I don't really like meetings in large cities. Out here you can always cruise right up to the building of our Japanese place. There's never any hunting for parking.

Exactamente! Got any "you must try this one" menu hint for lunch?

Ok, you're not into reducing your cholesterol intake. I also suspect you've never been a short order cook.

The problem with pancake and fried egg flipping is that nobody bothers to practice. There are plenty of videos and instructions on the art of egg flipping on the internet.

It's quite easy to flip a fried egg, omlet, or pancake if you don't insist on doing it in one step. Assuming it's swimming in butter, lard, or axle grease, just slide the contents of the pan onto a temporary plate. Put the pan back on the grill, and invert the temporary plate over the pan. Instant flip with the added bonus of removing some of the grease. It's non-elegant, but totally reliable.

Shaking Beef, for sure. Then chicken or catfish claypot.

It's really, really good.

There's zero cholesterol in the pancake mix, the pecans, the bananas, or the blueberries. That leaves 1/2 of an egg and under 1 oz of butter per serving. Tastes a lot better than tofu.

I also suspect

Wait... let me think... no!

He broke the yolk! I don't do that, except for Mo's, and that's on purpose. I break hers *after* I flip it.

I do a negative-g levitation and use the spatula to flip it in mid-air. This pancake wants to break up because of all the gooey banana slices, so I pretty much let it. We like it that way.

Hey, tofu is pretty good if you fry it in some butter!

Bisquick? You're better off using discrete components.

I've discovered Halloumi cheese recently- really high melting point, so it browns nicely. Looks like paneer, a bit squeaky like curds, a bit salty like Feta.

It even looks a bit like tofu, so I'd feed the fried tofu to the dog and sneak in the halloumi. Seems to be quite widely available, Cyprus-made and local.

You're also fairly safe with the eggs: Raw tofu has no taste. It absorbs the flavor of whatever you mix with it. However, you're correct. Anything tastes better than tofu. Even the cardboard box the tofu was shipped in tastes better than the tofu.

I have. I lasted a week in the kitchen and gave up. So, they made me manager.

No, he didn't break it. He flattened it and then over-cooked it. That's forgivable as he was trying to do a demonstration on how to flip the fried egg, not how cook it properly. Note that it's somewhat more difficult with more than one egg yolk.

You must have a large spatula. If I tried that, I would spray the butter everywhere. I avoid using a spatula as it's one more thing to wash.

Fry the pancake on a stainless fine wire mesh spatula, which will help to hold it together. Something like a large flat fly swatter the size of the pan with a handle: Lift, invert, and peel the mesh spatula off the pancake. I couldn't find one online, so you may need to make your own.

Actually I was just making a joke. I'm not big on tofu. It is not a tasty vegetable and is a poor substitute for meat. I don't eat meat and I don't feel any need to try to replace it.

Lately I have been enjoying the felafel at a number of places in the area. It can be simply delicious!

I may look for halloumi next time I'm near the big city. I'm currently in central Virginia where you have a hard time getting a lot of things if they aren't deep fried. But the lady at the local Market/Deli/Gas Station makes a *mean* potato soup... vegetarian too!

I would say were are drifting pretty OT here, but this *is* s.e.d! Oh, and the topic was breakfast!!!
