Or Tenma? Or Instek? Do these things last? Any thoughts, comments - ? I keep my personal Fluke 189 in the drawer, I find it inconvenient to carry it home whenever I need to check, say, camera battery ;o)

You find it inconvenient to carry home your portable because it is in a drawer but don't find it a problem to carry home a plug in unit? Odd...

Do you mean this one?

For claiming a 24-bit ADC, accuracy specs are terrible.

Get a Fluke!

Claiming 24 bit ADC is probably marketing ploy. They may use 24bit ADC for bragging rights and have, say, 12-14 bit front end to keep price low which still OK with me.

I won an HP 3456A on Eb*y for $49. I see some on there now for $150. Nice meter. Does math, communicates on GPIB, etc.

I think I lucked out on this one. I don't see any for that low a price now.

Good luck. John

Those *are* good meters. And you can actually repair them as well, as there's only a few custom chips, IIRC. You've got to have a bit of room for them, though.

In the last month a three runners sold for less than $100, one for $31! Can't beat the price.

You got that right! I use mine as a lab standard here in my garage even though it has not been calibrated.

I have two of those in the rack here, I bought from an aerospace auction a year or two ago. They are a real sleeper and the next best thing to a

3458 in stability terms for a fraction of the price. Ok, they are 6.5 digit against the 3458 8.5, but they will resolve 100nV and mean it. I used to leave one powered up all the time, but there's no real point. Neither had been that recently calibrated, but they track to better than a microvolt dc after a short warmup. On ebay uk, they usually make 50-100 ukp. A real bargain...

Chris
