"However, the most difficult results to explain away are probably those for the current-opposing modes of operation, where counter-flowing alternating currents in contra-wound toroidal coils resulted in no magnetic field whatsoever inside the coils ? while, at the very same time, magnetic fields and strong magnetic gradients formed outside them."

Bad inductors. So?

I find it odd that someone might suppose a multipole radiation source shouldn't be detectable with a dipole detector.

The concept of helicotoroidal resonances is very relevant in engineering, where shitty current transformers like the CST206-3A have major resonances, that can't be effectively dampened by circuit level components, and are easily understood as confined wave phenomena. Alas, if only the manufacturers understood this phenomena as well, we could have good components.

Did you miss reading the part about this arrangement generating SU 2 tensor waves, or "specially conditioned" EMF's?

That seemed to be the point of the article.

You can't invent new symmetries when there's no degrees of freedom in the _electro__magnetic_ field to carry them. I didn't notice any explanation or justification for suspecting the existence of these.

Shades of the Optical Orbital Angular Momentum folks (OAM). Some years back these guys were claiming that there was this huge family of available guided modes in fibres that (of course) would bring gigantic bandwidth improvements, yada yada. (Gotta have new buzzwords to get new funding, ya know, and of course there's a cachet to founding a new field.)

Then some actual physicists pointed out that if the original OAM claims were true, black body radiation would be many times stronger than it actually is.

Oops.

OAM is still a thing, because some folks have managed to convince funding agencies that OAM modes are useful or interesting despite just being linear combinations of boring old HE and EH modes that everybody's known about since the '60s if not earlier.

Cheers

And, indeed, if you cook black body radiation hard enough, you'll see those extra degrees of freedom -- that lie within particle physics (on the order of 10^12 degrees, doesn't much matter what units at this point), and which don't make a proportional showing at lower temperatures because the particles have mass (due to still other fields at work).

How strong is that, anyway? The E&M range goes as T^4, but once you pass the pair-production threshold, that must push it to a whole new level...

...Hmm, that would only be meaningful concerning neutronium, as you can't heat conventional (electronic) matter that hot.

I saw no mention of the type of core material used or the current levels in the conductors. Ever heard of "saturation"?

Also, the inclusion of "self-induced transparency" in the keywords wasn't especially encouraging. Smells like "Philadelphia Experiment" to me.

OK then, you might as well smell this too.

me.

Rexresearch is a collection of things that smell funny.

I'll take a look at it anyway since I'm a fan of "hard" science fiction.
