Is fiberglass filament tape going the way of the dodo bird.

I have searched Lowes and Home Depot for a decent roll of 1" Fiberglass filament reinforced packing tape. Neither have it. I found a small roll at Walmart, smaller and wider than what I want. I have found some online, but there are different qualities, the cheap stuff gets poor reviews for strength, the glue, and ability to get it off the roll. I bit the bullet and bought a Roll of 3M Scotch 897 Filament Tape,

Prices run from $10 to 17 dollars a roll for decent fiberglass filament reinforced packing tape. And it's been hard for me to find it locally.

I got it free for years, I worked at the marina, when the Tuna boats unloaded, the buyer packed the Tuna in a two part boxes, then taped around it at both ends. when the rolls got low they tossed them rather than having to deal with a partial wrap and then getting another roll. I would get 8 or 10 rolls with 10 or more feet on them each time. I think the tape got too expensive for them, now the use 5" shrink wrap rolls. Mikek

Yes I have looked at that, it's 2" and it's not your standard fiberglass filament reinforced packing tape. Thanks, Mikek
