ICEs vs EVs and the oil supply/price

That is to say Musk has big dreams of automated electric trucks as a way of undercutting the railroads by shoving the costs of road upkeep onto others.

He does in fact describe himself as his own fashion of socialist who believes socialism does the "most good" when the poor subsidize wealthy people like him, in his own words more-or-less:

All first world countries do. So that's not the reason.

Nonsense. The roads in Japan[*], for instance, would never support full-sized pickup trucks. Too narrow. The countries are also tiny with very high population densities. Not vary automobile friendly.

*WAY* different circumstances. [*] add most of Europe

I can't speak for Japan. Certainly UK, France and most other European places do have roads big enough to carry goods. There's really no mileage in arguing otherwise. The reason lies elsewhere.

"Have roads" says it all. ...and the thread isn't about "carrying goods". It's about having millions of large cars and trucks on the roads, driven by the general population going where the general population goes. Think, man!

Drive around Ireland for a while and get back to us.

Terrifying.

I recently spent time in Ireland. Irish roads are terrifyingly narrow. There are motorways that are wider, of course, but where's the fun in spending your time on motorways? You can send semi-trailers from port to warehouse, but good luck getting those on secondary roads. Even a normal-sized pickup truck would have trouble in Ireland.

EU folks have long been kept down by their masters, but seem to be waking up.

Cheers

I see tons of foreign trucks and SUVs here in California. The Japanese SUVs and pickups used to be small, but have hugely bulked up in the last decade or two. RAV4 used to be small, but it's giant now. Ditto the popular Toyota pickups.

Lots of big Audi and VW and Land Rover and BMW and Porsche and MB SUVs too.

Why would anyone name a series of vehicles TRD?

It's interesting to explore the world with Google Street View and see what vehicles and colors are popular. Japan looks just like the USA, lots of white and grey sedans and SUVs.

I have been in the Us of A, and road quality is extremely bad, potholes all over the place. So your arguments lack a solid base......

The local roads are narrow and convex, with ditches and bogs instead of shoulders. There's barely room for two cars.

Another Europeon moron heard from. I'm not talking about the quality of the roads. I'm talking about the width. We didn't start out with chariots so made streets and minor highways wider.

Right. They've always been screwed by highway taxes (highway robbery, in spades). At least the frogs have had enough.

Even if they were perfect his argument makes no sense. I have 70 horses in my main car and there is no situation in which more are needed. It seems to be some sort of loss of connection with reality, like all those school lea vers acting like they're celebrities.

Lol, yeah. Driving on narrow roads from time to time must a pretty tough life. Like slavery really

Gosh I bet you can't even drive a fully-equipped F-150 there! Much less a Silverado with the Denali package and quad rear wheels with locking differential.

I sure hope the Irish people wake up and are delivered from their wretched lives of misery and oppression soon.

We rented a small car and it was scary when a truck appeared in the other sort-of lane.

Their food could use some work too.

My ancestors sensibly got out rather than starving.
