I have no experince with that robot but I'd take the repeatability numbers with a grain of salt. I've played with a universal robot, which is I think 3x that price and claims +/-0.1 mm repetability
Another thing to watch out for is shaking syndrome. I.e. You can move your coffee cup from point A to B, but losing half of your drink.
Some servo are KISS, rather than PID. They over and under shoot a lot before getting there. First thing is to find out what servo they are using, and if it's possible to upgrade/replace them.
By the time you do all the works of fixing somebody's design, might as well start from scratch. You can 3D print most parts, except bearings. As least not for cheap, we got a $500 quote for a metal bearing 3D printing.
