Anyone know of a - preferably UK - source for small quantities of enamelled copper wire for use up to 220'C ?
Just a few metres of around 0.25 and 0.8mm diameter would suffice.
Cheers

They certainly sell small quantities, though 500grm's is probably going to be more than a few metres.
I've bought stuff from them, though mostly via
Farnell does regular enamelled copper wire, but it doesn't seem to have any high temperature enamelled wire.

I usually go to my local electric motor rewind shop. Mikek
Thanks, Bill, I had looked there, but nothing close enough to the right sizes, however on looking again I notice they say to contact them as they have more, so I have and we'll see.
It's an interesting site, lots of pretty things.
The frustrating thing is that a former employer had loads of the stuff, which I often used but never took any heed of whence it came, and I can't really ask for commercial reasons.

I don't think it helps you at all, but Sandvik sells small quantities through Amazon.com, and they have 240°C rated wire (polyimide insulation). Shipment cost to Europia seems to be in the 100 GBP range.
It might - but it depends how deep Syd's pockets are and how desperate he is for specific wire gauges.
I was paying close to 50 GBP for my 500 gram reels of wire, so 100 GBP might not be so unreasonable if it gave you access to something closer to the exact wire gauge.

Actually, wires.co.uk just emailed to say they have some 0.71mm (close enough) which they'll put on the website tomorrow, so problem solved, thanks.
It didn't occur to me to look at Amazon though. Odd that a supplier of such esoteric stuff should sell through them.

Amazon, and Amazon Supply are becoming formidable challengers to the established old-line distributors.
A good hint, thanks. No EU branch yet, it seems.
About the OP's wire source request: I have also gotten wire through scientificwire.com, which Bill hinted about. Polyester insulated Cu wire, which is good for cryogenic use, too, although it is originally intended for high temperatures. They also used to sell prefabricated twisted pair. Now, it's not too difficult to twist ones own pairs, but the prefabricated stuff had differently colored enamels on the two wires, which was nice for polarity detection.
Regards, Mikko
Sounds like samples is the way to go. Look up "transformer wire insulation class" (or a variant) to find which variant suits your application best.
