Group etiquette...

"Blame" isn't the right word here. Yes, Eeyore is a troll-baiter (I wonder if he's made "master" yet ;-p ), but the warmingists are just yammering a bunch of claptrap based on a religious faith that's practically a cult.

Since they have no facts to back up any of their claims, they resort to ad-hominem attacks.

The proper solution, of course, is simply to refrain from feeding the trolls.

Thanks, Rich

Well, we're having global warming today in LA, but the Upper Midwest seems to be having an Ice Age. I gotta email my brothers in Minneapolis and see how they're faring. ;-)

Well, so you say...

Not really. the ad-hominem is *at the least* equally divided. And until perhaps recently (that raveninghorde guy) any actual logical arguments opposing AGW have been very thin on the ground here.

OK. Then I'm a kick-everyone's-ass-who-gets-in-my-way hawk ;-)

As for social stuff... do what ever rings your chime, just don't do it to me... otherwise I exercise those rights implied by the CCW permit ;-)

The whole fundamental premise of "The Greenhouse Effect" is fallacious to the point of being ludicrous.

Back in the 1800's or so, observers saw, "Venus is hot! Venus has CO2 in the atmosphere - therefore, traces of CO2 on Earth are going to boil us all!"

Without even a single look at the physics or cosmology involved.

Warmingism is a religious cult based on denial of factual data.

And not only that, but "well-intentioned" policies foisted on us by the warmingists have already caused observable damage, like the exacerbation of starvation in third world countries caused by the diversion of food crops for "ethanol, for the sake of more gasoline for the warmingists' SUVs.

Not to mention the collapse of the economy.

Thanks, Rich

More like the 1980's. I am old enough to remember the worries about a "nuclear winter". (Perhaps we should set a few off).

That particular policy is indeed stupid. But most of the others seem good things to be doing in any case. Such as aiming to reduce dependence on oil, the development of solar and other alternative sources and improvements in fuel efficiency. So I am happy enough to go with the consensus here.

I don't think it is possible to come to a really informed opinion - enough to be able to authoritatively contradict the vast majority of existing scientific opinion - without practically becoming a climatologist yourself.

:-) Well, I am too, sometimes. But I bet you wouldn't exercise that philosophy on a group that had never ever shown themselves to be a threat. You'd only go after groups that had "started it." I don't think that libertarians would rule out "going on the offensive" in a war, once it's started. They'd only rule out unprovoked aggression.

I wasn't clearly evaluating your point. Indeed I'm not for any "aggression" that is not self-defense based.

Nothing like the Japanese/German/Chinese/Vietnamese/Korean "taking" for financial/expansionist reasons.

Just admit it. You're an old fart who is big on sending other people's children, parents, and spouses on military expeditions. 8-| (My Daddy was a career military officer and many of my childhood friend's dads were in the Armed Forces.) . . [1] ...who got the facts completely wrong.

Very Libertarian of you. Most people don't sign employment contracts and the law allows strikes. (It's fascinating that a former prez of the Screen Actors Guild would conduct a mass firing of union employees when he got to the Oval Office.)

If you understood in the slightest the working conditions that existed early in the last century

or, indeed, were exposed to them personally, you would get an appreciation that the Labor leg of the 3-legged stool has no power *except* to deny Capital and Management its work.

That was my point. The simple quiz doesn't dig deep enough.

You're not related to Bill are you? He likes calling people dumb.

If someone takes a job he/she is accepting a contract whether it is written or not.

I'm not sure of the relevance of a 100 year old fire is to current conditions.

I got peed off with management over 30 years ago - ITT. I set up my own business - if I think management is an idiot I know who to blame.

If labor doesn't like the job get a better job. If there isn't a better one what's the complaint?

Like most people I'm a mix of views and prejudices. I see myself as a Thatcherite and admired Ronny Regan but that doesn't mean I agreed with everything they did or said.

My point was a simple quiz doesn't give the results they claim. I correctly, from my pov, answered all questions. but that doesn't describe me.

You're right. We should stay out of other people's faces. Let Iran have nukes... who cares... I (and all my family) are far enough removed from both (expendable) coasts.

So what?

A grandfather served in WWI. My father served in WWII, engineer corps, in the occupation of Japan. My father-in-law was "Q" clearance... that's all we really know. A brother-in-law was CIA. I was in process of joining the USAF (and I had an offer from the FBI :-) when the MIT scholarship came through... I was getting out of WV one way or another ;-)

I believe that collapsing everything onto one axis is the fundamental mistake that almost everybody makes when looking at political issues.

The leftists want to control their own bodies, but want the government to control their money.

The rightists want to control their own money, but want the government to control their bodies.

The other axis (actually, it's kind of all "on the bias", wink wink nudge nudge), is between minimum government and maximum government, and both the leftists and rightists believe that the government should have power over you.

The libertarians believe that you own your own body, AND you own your own earnings, and the only purpose of government is to keep records and to provide a node so that large agreements have a reference point (like, how/where does I-94 transition from Minnesota to North Dakota. All you really need is a map room.).
