Google group users and spam.

my post, even if he can't be bothered actually doing it. In reality he woul dn't know where to start, but the pathetic clown does know how to concoct e xcuses for failing to try.

Dan isn't smarter than me - and hasn't bothered to try to demonstrate this. He does spend a lot of time demonstrating that he can't do joined up think ing, which rather demonstrates the reverse.

His university is now higher in the global rankings than mine is. What that says about him isn't obvious, except perhaps that he is hard pushed to fin d something he can boast about.

He may be richer than I am, since I don't know how much money he has. But h e doesn't know how much money I've got - and his original basis for that c laim was that I live in an apartment and he lives in a house. He went quiet for a bit when he registered that an apartment with a view of Sydney Harbo ur is worth a bit more than his house, but he's managed to decide that his investments are worth more than my investments (which he knows even less ab out).

All of which goes to show is that Dan is pretty dim. I do point this out to him from time to time, but he seems incapable of processing the informatio n - he wants to feel superior to somebody, which is a bit sad, since he see ms to be in the same dismal league as NT and krw.

Yeah, you just claim it and then demonstrate your foolishness.

Dan doesn't know right way to spell "usage".

"Dan isn't smarter than I am" would have been better, but Dan couldn't mana ge that.

and do not intend to do so.

The fact that it would be impossible is probably the main reason you don't intend to try, though you aren't going to admit it and may be too dumb to r ealise that this is why you "haven't bothered".

I've got a little list of things that I've done that might be seen as showi ng some degree of cleverness that do happen to be accessible to web search. Dan doesn't.

time demonstrating that he can't do joined up thinking, which rather demons trates the reverse.

He wasn't smart enough to snip this, which reinforces my point.

. That is a big help to reduce clutter when you are scrolling through looki ng for a particular post.

e illegal ads.

I'm starting to find Google Groups may not be the best newsreader. If you b lock a thread, it still pops to the top of the list as soon as anyone posts to it. Since it is blocked, you don't know who posted or what they said, s o it still requires attention and wastes your time.

I reverted back to XNews, which allows blocking individuals such as the Joh n Does and other verified trolls. The entire thread remains visible, just t he trolls are removed.

XNews allows saving individual posts for future reference. This is not poss ible in Goggle Groups. XNews also loads much faster than Google Groups, whi ch saves time. XNews tells you how many new posts have appeared, so you can instantly see how much activity has appeared since your last visit. This a lso saves time since you can exit immediately if little or no new posts hav e been made.

Google Groups is excellent for following up on old threads that you may wis h to re-examine, or search for useful information. This is verey difficult or impossible in XNews. But for daily checking, XNews is far superior.

As alwas in personal preferences, YMMV.

Spelling doesn't matter in an informal forum.

But it's annoying when people can't tell its from it's.

other google goop users would help with this. You just click on the triang le in the upper right corner of the post, (more message actions) Choose 're port abuse' and then spam. three clicks... it would just be nice to have s ome help.

newsgroup.

hat topic is lost forever. You would miss a post in case someone said somet hing important.

That's not my experience. When a reply is made in a thread with a blocked post, the replies are all visible. Usually it is the spammers who reply to spam posts, so I may have to block two or three posts to make a thread inv isible.

As I said, this is not my experience. I have reported a post and then realize I'm still seeing the thread because of replies. I've also seen a bunch of spam show up and then realized the post I blocked *was* a reply to a spam I had previously blocked.

Maybe we are using different Googles...

Most spell checkers should let you add a word to the dictionary.
