current sensor for arduino

Hi.

Am looking for some ready made solution that i can use for detecting current change. The input can be 220V or 50V AC ( depending from device ). Basically, this will be current limitation based on arduino.

When the current is to high, relay will trigger one other device.

There is some arduino module, but i newer test it.

No idea, why don't you buy one and report back. I will note that I can buy the ACS712 from DK for ~$4.

I guess it's resistor & opamp based. You don't provide enough info re your app to say much.

ACS712 is hall sensor based, the 30A version is +/-30A, 66mv/A, 0.5*Vcc at 0A

it is isolated, but I'd be suspicious of the clearances on that board for mains use

If the 220 Vac is direct mains voltage, please use a proper current transformer. Mains connected devices needs 1500 to 2500 V isolation, depending where in the supply chain the device is located.

Why would you use a processor for overcurrent protection ? Do you need

circuit breakers and fuses aren't accurate enough ?

Anyway, if you intend to use the Arduino for overcurrent protection, put a dumb device (CB or fuse) in front of your system tripping at a slightly higher current or longer time that the Arduino system would trip, in case your Arduino system fails.

Unless you want to kill yourself or your users, it would be much safer to use a current transformer. There are methods doing it without current transformers, but that requires quite a lot of experience working with mains voltages.
