Build a Lifx (WiFi LED Bulb) for less than 15 dollars [HACK]

Hi,

I'm new to this group and I would like to have some help looking inside an RF remote controlled bulb that we would like to hack and make it WiFi enabled, using an ESP8266 SoC.

With a friend we have just open a Lexman bulb (warm and cold white), here the photos:

The goal is remove the IC that are no longer required, get the 3v3 supply and control directly the transistors that gives power to the LEDs.

Looking at the pictures there are some clear and unclear points that I want to share and hopefully trigger a discussion and an answer from more experienced people:

1) The linear voltage regulator should be the one located between U3 and EC1, from the tagname (that contains 33) should be a 3v3 one, we haven't yet done the measures, but we will soon. 2) Near the chrystal, R4 and W- there are three transistors N06N, that should be NPN type with internal resistor on the base. 3) On the PCB there are three incoming wires from the AC/DC that is located in the body of the bulb. Those has label L+, N- and W- the same has label LED+, LED- and GND on the AC/DC. 4) Without a measure I cannot say that there is an AC/DC but is likely to be, because there is one diode near L+ and so this could be only for protection (not rectifier) and the incoming feed should be DC. 5) There are no wires from the transistor to the LEDs, so the connection should be on the PCB itself.

Now the doubts:

1) Why 3 wires and not just 2? I was expecting the led powered directly from the AC/DC and the transistor to cut-off the current to GND. 2) The lamp has two type of LEDs one for cold white and the other for warm one, so two transistor should be ok, but there are three. Why? 3) The main IC haven't a label that gives some datasheet as result of a google search, so I cannot understand what U1, U2 and U3 are. But likely are a microcontroller, a radio and an EEPROM/FLASH. Some one has a better understanding?

In the next days we will do some measure, but probably there is someone here that can quickly point us in the right direction.
