Bill Sloman's Idol

. Who says it causes that ? who says that lead instead of the developmental effects, instead affects their say, sexual development ? Can YOU say that ?

What I say is what I can glean from the medical literature. Search that if you want answers.

e brain, so does LSD, it increases seratonin. Now they sell drugs ion TV to boost seratonin here.

Heavy metal poisoning affects lots of biologically important reactions.

Medically speaking, having a raised lead level in your blood goes with bein g a sick person. More lead seems to mean a sicker person.

Arsenic was used in low doses as a skin stimulant - it damaged the rest of the body, but not that much. It isn't used any more.

cific effect on the specific intellectual capacity of the individual ? No, they said these stupid kids have lead so it must be the lead.

"The brain is the organ most sensitive to lead exposure.[64] Lead is able t o pass through the endothelial cells at the blood brain barrier because it can substitute for calcium ions and be uptaken by calcium-ATPase pumps.[153 ] Lead poisoning interferes with the normal development of a child's brain and nervous system; therefore children are at greater risk of lead neurotox icity than adults are.[154] In a child's developing brain, lead interferes with synapse formation in the cerebral cortex, neurochemical development (i ncluding that of neurotransmitters), and organization of ion channels.[150] It causes loss of neurons' myelin sheaths, reduces numbers of neurons, int erferes with neurotransmission, and decreases neuronal growth.[13]

Lead-ions (Pb2+), like magnesium-ions (Mg2+), blocks NMDA receptors. Since the normal Pb2+ concentration in the extracellular fluid is low (adult aver age of 120 mg[a]), even a low increase in Pb2+ concentration has a signific ant positive affect on the blockage of NMDA-receptors.[156] Therefore, an i ncrease in Pb2+ concentration, will, effectively, inhibit ongoing long-term potentiations (LTPs), and lead to an abnormal increase long-term depressio n (LDPs) on neurons on the effected parts of the nervous system. These abno rmalities lead to the indirect downregulation of NMDA-receptors, effectivel y initiating a positive feedback-loop for LDP.[157] The targeting of NMDA r eceptors is thought to be one of the main causes for lead's toxicity to neu rons."

ere so many other pollutants in the air it ain't funny. AND NOW!, tell me i f this is conclusive fact, how come some of these kids came out of the ghet to and succeeded in life. Was it that their Parents fed them and they didn' t eat the paint off the walls or that they watched them and didn't let them eat the paint off the walls. What evidence do you, or anyone really have t hat proves it one way or the other ?

Lead doesn't hit an on-off switch. It just degrades your performance. Kids that would have been clever if they hadn't been exposed to low levels of le ad are still fairly clever after that exposure.

be among the top bio-chemistsd in the world who could tell us that these o xides or whatever of lead affect this and that part of the brain by poisoni ng the process by which whatever... You got evidence like that ? If so I am here.

See above.

ions which I believe leave much to be desired.

You couldn't even find their data, so you don't know where their conclusion s came from. What you believe about stuff where you don't have clue what's gong on isn't all that interesting.

peration ? Which of the strange-ic acids or whatever the brain uses is dama ged by lead compounds ? AND HOW ?

See above. I could find it, even if you couldn't.

LLY done the homework and like many other things use statistical data to "p rove" their point.

The statistics aren't the whole of the story.

Since you couldn't find the rest of the story - not even the fairly limited precis available from Wikipedia - your grasp of what constitutes evidence is tenuous, and the conclusions that you draw from the evidence that you ca n find are clearly premature (and almost certainly superficial and wrong).

Cursitor Doom snips the elements of the post that identify who it is that J ohn Larkin thinks is being stupid lately - it was bitrex - and yet proceeds to claim that he can confirm that whoever it was has not only been stupid lately but has also been stupid at earlier times.

This is pretty stupid behavior, but Cursitor Doom also believes what he rea ds in the Daily Mail, and what he is told by Russia Today, which is not onl y stupid but gullible.

John Larkin, krw and Cursitor Doom seem to used "stupid" as if it means "has disagreed with me".

As if anybody with any sense could agree with any of them all that often .. .

I didn't say that. I said like "Who says ?". It's just a matter of not accepting things at face value.

I didn't deny it. I didn't "conclude" they are wrong. I said "Who says ?". Actually you came closer to real answers than I ever found, though admittedly I didn't look all that hard.

I get the same thing with my newsreader but it ain't no biggie at all. AFAIK most if not all news clients do the same thing.

I can't understand that attitude at all. I've noticed that hardly anyone seems to look at headers any more, much less understand them. I'm guessing it's maybe because they're getting their news via a browser which strips all the 'confusing bits' and metadata out for them.

Firefox looking at Google Groups doesn't.

Quite what simple-minded browser Cursitor Doom had in mind isn't obvious, but granting his usual performance it's probably something drawn from his fertile but unrealistic imagination.
