When doing first engineering runs it's often 0805 for easier probing and debugging. Later it is reduced to cell-phone style if needed.
I just ask the layouter to notch the planes underneath.

There is nothing wrong with using regular parts with large geometries up there but it depends on what the client wants and which regulations have to be observed.
You seem to only design hi-rel stuff. Many of us live in both worlds. The other extreme for me was when a customer asked me to identify those resistors in one of my designs that could be relaxed to 5%, 10%, 20% and untrimmed. This cost them 15 billed consulting minutes on my part and they had that cost recouped within a couple of months. It's still being produced, well over 20 years now.
I've got a Dunkelweizen in secondary fermentation. It's going into bottles in about 10 days. Then another two weeks of bottle fermenation and carbonation and it should be ready. I tasted it during the transfer from primary and it is promising.
We live in wine country, grapes growing all around us, but still favor beer.
