Are metal film resistors slowly going to lalaland?

When doing first engineering runs it's often 0805 for easier probing and debugging. Later it is reduced to cell-phone style if needed.

I just ask the layouter to notch the planes underneath.

Ahem, we could have underage folks reading here ... :-)

There is nothing wrong with using regular parts with large geometries up there but it depends on what the client wants and which regulations have to be observed.

You seem to only design hi-rel stuff. Many of us live in both worlds. The other extreme for me was when a customer asked me to identify those resistors in one of my designs that could be relaxed to 5%, 10%, 20% and untrimmed. This cost them 15 billed consulting minutes on my part and they had that cost recouped within a couple of months. It's still being produced, well over 20 years now.

I've got a Dunkelweizen in secondary fermentation. It's going into bottles in about 10 days. Then another two weeks of bottle fermenation and carbonation and it should be ready. I tasted it during the transfer from primary and it is promising.

We live in wine country, grapes growing all around us, but still favor beer.

That kit does not appear to be metal film, just says thin film.

Even for a metal film resistor that is expensive in my book.

Bavaria was actually wine country until the medieval cold period when it now longer grew there. They had to import brewing specialists from northern Germany. What is now called Bockbier really refers to the city of Einbeck, where they made a hi-alc beer that could survive some time on board of ships.

And later in Pilsen they imported a brewing master from Bavaria. Interesting technology finds it way everywhere.

Maybe the Bavarians can return to wine soon. We have already first stable populations of the asian tiger moskito in the Rhine valley. They could not survive here only 20 years ago.

cheers, Gerhard
