Anyone here use a pressure cooker to cook Rice?

I'm married to an Asian and familiar with at least 7 families that cook rice almost daily, not one of them uses a pressure cooker to cook rice.

Are Mohammad Alotaibi, 20, and Ayoub Alawadhi, 21 just rice cooking anomalies? Do they live together? If yes, why do they need two?

Mikek is a racist, just wanted to save some bleed heart the trouble of responding.

I've never heard of using a pressure cooker to cook rice.

My wife has several rice cookers of different sizes. If anything I'd call the method "slow cooking"... makes the rice moist and quite soft. ...Jim Thompson

I love to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

No, you wouldn't use a pressure cooker.

But when I was a young man, I may well have confused a pressure cooker with a rice cooker.

Yeah, well there's a method of cooking meat ('madghut') for Machboos (I've never had it, but it looks to be a bit like Indian briyani) that uses a pressure cooker. The (usually) basmati rice is not cooked in a pressure cooker, of course.

If the guys said they had them to make *Machboos*, the NY Post would probably translate that to "rice meat and chicken" to suit the level of intelligence and worldliness present in their readership, then some wanker added the provocative headline.

Because what happens in NYC doesn't stay in NYC?

Depends from which part of Asia one is from. All over the Indian sub-continent, people eat soft, but NON-STICKY rice. Ditto for places like Thailand. But rice eaten in Cambodia and further on eat somewhat sticky Botan rice. If you use a pressure cooker, to cook rice, with just the correct amount of water, it should be non-sticky, otherwise not.

Yeah, what's your point? Some guys who owned pressure cookers were questioned by the police. So what?

Isn't NY already a killing party?

I suppose you think it is profiling to investigate two young men that are suspected Islamists, that bought two pressure cookers in Michigan and decided to travel to New York on their way to Idaho. Oh the horror! My point, I'm glad the police questioned them, may have prevent New York from a terrorist act. Mikek

The DNC is the killing *party*. NYC (and NY) is only a symptom.

Detroit is even worse but all lefty hell holes are the same.

What did I say that made you think I have a problem with them being questioned... btw, since when is being an Islamist a crime??? You mean suspected terrorists, no? Also, I don't see anything in the article that says "suspected Islamist" and religion isn't even mentioned.

If they hadn't been Arab would they have been suspicious?

Also, the article says they claim these pressure cookers are only found in Arab supermarkets so most likely they aren't like the ones we think of. I think the terror connection is rather thin at best. I like the fact that they "remain under investigation".

The point is that the guys were questioned *because* they owned pressure cookers and were middle-eastern.

"men were not arrested"

Memo to men - tell the the police that you'll answer reasonable questions where you are. Do not go with the police unless they arrest you.

It's not always a good idea to answer random questions from the authorities, even if you think you've done nothing wrong.

Remember, they can (and will) lie to you but you can't lie to them, even if it's not a lie (you're mistaken or don't really know). Best to say nothing but that can get difficult, too.
