It is as well to take some with a big pinch of salt.
Clueless morons can write reviews of books or kit too so you get examples where really good textbooks or kit has a *** rating consisting of a bimodal * (by idiots) and ***** (by experts) distribution.
The standard reference on JPEG has this problem:

More amusing so did this geologists hammer in 2012 (the clue is in the name for any dumber than a rock ice climbing survivalists out there).

That can be several hundred. I read a sampling of the positive reviews and try to read all of the negative. Though there are often too many of them to read, too.
Which is why you actually have to READ the reviews. What _is_ it that's good/bad?

Sometimes fake reviews are not worthless, as in the case of the famous
