Alpine car stereo

I have an Alpine car stereo with cassette (1988). Model 7180.

I cant seem to find a wiring diagram online. There are 12 wires not including the RCA jack cables and the antenna connector. One is labeled "power antenna", the others have no labels.

I can not understand what they are all for. 3 would be speakers (or 4 if each has separate ground).

One is power, another is probably dial light power. Normally the case is the ground....

That's a total of 5 or 6 needed wires.....

What are the others for?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this unit?

You really don't know anything about car stereos do you? Two speakers in the front, two in the back and a sub-woofer. That's 10 wires right there. Maybe they had two sub-woofers.

Some power antennas had two wires, one for AM length, one for FM length. My '83 280ZX had such an arrangement. ...Jim Thompson

I don't have a wiring diagram, but here's what I remember from my youth...

Some of them should be fairly obvious: Red =3D +12 volts switched (only on with ignition switch) Yellow =3D +12 volts unswitched (on all the time, used to keep the clock time accurate, channels set, etc..) Black =3D ground Blue =3D I recall this was for the power antenna

Then you have the speakers. These are usually colored in pairs (like blue/brown, brown/blue - meaning the first color listed is the dominant color of the wire).

You'll have 4 sets of these, for a total of 8 more wires.

--------- Now, if you don't have the wires, and only have the radio itself, you might be out of luck with the above description.

I recall that on some units, the speakers were on a separate physical plug (jack) from the power connections. That, and a voltmeter, might at least help you out with the power connections. The speakers might be a bit more difficult to figure out, but not impossible.

Good luck!

I was looking at a picture. Yellow is probably always on. Might have bridged outputs. You could figure it it out on a bench, or buy the $17 manual.

This guy has one for sale on ebay that he repaired. Maybe he's willing to help you.

Or maybe you can break down and buy the manual. The 16 dollar shipping is kind of a rip off.
