3D Food Printers are the way of our future.

Even if one could, it would need plenty of power & raw materials. Sunlight is free.

I'm sure people said that about hunting in the forests, and lots of other things long gone. If we went back in time we'd say it about some things of today. It means nothing.

After 20 years as a vegetarian one told me she didn't think she'd be able to digest meat any more, but I think that was her own speculation and not from anything she'd read.

MREs are way of our future, for population of 50B as noted below.

For food, important factors are 1:taste, 2:smell and 3:look. 3D foods are for look only. Why would it be mandatory to provide it for mass population. MREs would do just fine.

I thought of that after I posted -- you could make a 3D printer that would scan the shape of a cake, then apply icing.

I hadn't thought about custom-printed cookies, but yes!

The hard part (IMHO) wouldn't be the electro-mechanical part -- it'd be food science coming up with recipes for the goo you're squeezing out of it so that it'd be tasty and printable.
