2-line ,,,single line phone?

I own a Sony IT-M602 2-line speakerphone. When I pick up the other (single line) phone in the other room, the Sony phone "line 2" button flashes, then the sony phone can't join the conversation until the person presses the "line 2" button. Ho w can I set it so it just acts like a single line phone?

It's a built-in privacy feature.

A line-in-use can't be accidently joined by just picking up the phone.

All my office phones are like that... prevents the obvious situation: I grab up the handset and start dialing before I realize the line is already in use. Also my phones have an LCD screen which messages, for instance, "Line 2 is in use".

My V-Tech wireless multi-line phones are like that as well.

What model V-Tech do you have? How many handsets max? I've been looking for something that can handle 6-8 with 2 lines, wireless and digital two in-box answering machine.. Seems that there's not much out there, and some like the Panasonic get really mixed reviews. Maybe the market for multiline residential is shrinking now that every kid over 10-12 has a cell. 8-(

Unplug the other phone from line 2, and plug it into line 1.

Or talk on line 2 on the 2-line phone. :-)

I once had a 2-line phone that had a "conference" feature, where it could couple the two lines together, and the guy on line 1 could also talk to the guy on line 2. You might want to look at the instruction manual for your phone.

Cheers! Rich
