Question about LCD display.

Hi, second time posting here... (First got posted to Easynews, then subsequently deleted! I'd like it if someone told me why this post is unsuitable.)

Please reply to REMOVETHISlostgallifreyanATgmail.com if you will help me. :)

I'm looking for a 240x64 graphic LCD, with green/yellow LED backlight, but with a low profile 5 mm forward extension as found in electroluminescent backlit panels, instead the 9 mm more usual to LED backlit types. I've seen this acheived with a small alphanumeric display, but I don't know if it's been done for larger graphic panels.

Has anyone seen it done, and if so, who by?

(My need is critical, it's a repair for a unit that places many boards across the back of the display, there is NO room for adaptations, it has to be low profile, even if I have to stick with El backlighting to do it.)

Even if it was deleted from 'easynews', remember than the usenet is not solely affected by one node - that is, I can see your original post directly below this one :)

I know it's not. :) But this is still odd. First, I checked by refreshing, it was there ok. Then it went, presumably fast enough that it was gone before propagation from Easynews. Obviously it hung around long enough that it propagated, or you'd not see it, but it's definitely gone from Easynews, permanently. This second post survived though. The first won't reappear for me unless it propagates back again. and I don't know if that can happen...

Back to topic. :)

240x64 graphic LCD, green/yellow LED backlight, but low profile, only as high (thick) as the EL backlight type. Do they exist? I can't find one but I suspect this has been done by now...

Hi, I'm still hoping someone knows an answer for this one. If you did reply, but to the earlier post that vanished, please could you post as answer to this one. I don't know if anyone replied to the vanished one, I guess if they did, some malformed header causes all posts in the thread to fail.

Well, I have lying a PVG240602 in front of me (manufacturer PicVue). Nice LCD, 5mm standoff with a 1.5 mm gap to insert EL backlight.

Never have seen larger LCDs with LED backlight myself. Too inefficient. I think you have to go with EL.

regards, Wolfgang

Thankyou. :)

LED is standard for 240x64 transflective actually, they look really great, it's just that they usually need a thicker panel. I'll use EL if I must, but either way the cost is such that I don't want to spend til I'm sure I've exhausted likely chances of finding a thin LED lit panel.
