searching for a source for ...

Currently need a source for header sockets in 2mm pitch, ideally 2row*10 but I'm prepared to improvise.

Far(ke)nell have the Harwin 2*10 for ~$24 each!! Looking for a more sane price than that. Small quantity. Any ideas?

Depending on how small a quantity it may be worthwhile asking Prospec

9249 9277. They can supply Samtec parts.

Tnx for the lead Alan.

Their website lists three suppliers for the required connector - GTK, Samtec and Oupiin. Unfortunately they can only offer me an SMD type by another supplier entirely - $1 ea, MOQ 58, 2-3weeks - which is pretty good. As I was chasing through-hole (which I stated in my enquiry) this doesn't help, so the hunt goes on.

I hope you have a better experience than me. I sent email enquiries to Samtec a couple of years back and never even got a response.

You might try also JRL Components in Malaga 9248 3744.

I haven't dealt with them for years but they used to specialise in connectors - nowadays I don't know - I try and stick with common or garden parts as much as possible! (like the MT8870 DTMF controllers - MOQ 820 - painful !)

Apart from Far(ke)nell they listed C&S and Metromatics. Already tried both, MOQ/MOV hell all over again.

It's the old problem - no-one wants to hold stock to break down the factory MOQ, because they get stuck with a shelf full of non-moving lines. Arrow with Maxim are a perfect (?) example.

Sounds like Farnell win again. Methinks the protos may be assembled here but even trial prod will be offshore, where the chinese will source them in whatever small quantities are required. (The last job here cost us $140 per stuffed board, now we get them ex china for $24.)

Guess I'll just stck with the 0.1in variety. At least you can get them almost anywhere!

I did notice a trend for some micro manufacturers to go with 6 pin (2 x 3) ribbon cable sockets for in circuit programming devices. I haven't seen anywhere locally where you can get the 6 pin sockets yet though.

I suppose you might try looking oversees for the connectors - Digikey, Mouser, etc or even someplace in the UK.
