CFL's and Breast cancer ?

Seems to claim that CFL (and normal fluorescents) are supposedly a cause of skin - and breast cancer.?

Has anyone actually *measured* the UV emission from CFLs, and ordinary fluoros for that matter ? Or is this the usual wild guesses ?

Come to think of it, has anyone measured the UV from the white LEDs starting to be used for domestic lighting.

Are our regulators missing an opportunity to create another set of standards, and regulations and inspections to ensure all lights meet them ? What a pity !

How would CFL UV cause breast cancer? Maybe topical skin cancer, depends on wavelength but UV doesn't penetrate into the skin very far at all.

1> By sitting topless under fluro light for extended periods at close range (ie sitting at a desk and using a fluro desk lamp) 2> By (CFL based?) skin cancer that is untreated for years and spreads to the breast. 3> Getting it through other means and trying to blame lamp manufacturers to get compo.

The bit about more incidences of cancer in areas with fluorescent street lighting was a good one.

Was this noticed in hookers standing under street lights all night with very little covering their breasts (for advertising purposes). With the Financial crisis, they might be spending a lot more time waiting for customers under these lights, rather than on their back in a (dark?) room, hence increasing breast and skin cancer rates ?
